i don`t know much about web hosting but i can mention some of free web hosting.
list of free hosting i ever use:

-geocities, with side bar ads

-tripod, with to much ads in your site, i don`t know if they still exist or not

-freewebs, no ads at all

note: as i knew 90% of free hosting sites only support for static site
